Chuck Yeager

So this is a photo from 1988. I have never posted these because I lost my copies of them. Mom lent me hers, so I am posting them now. (:

This was taken in June of 1988 in Montrose, CO. We always went to Montrose to visit a cowboy and his wife we were friends with. But this particular year, my dad found out, somehow, that Chuck Yeager was staying at the same hotel we were at. If you don't know who Chuck Yeager is, short story is that he was a general who was the first person to ever break the sound barrier. If you want to learn more, look him up here.

So anyway, as the story goes, my dad went to the hotel manager who was a mutual friend with the cowboy we visited. Dad used to be a knife maker and he knew that Chuck collected hand made knives, so dad wrote a letter saying he wanted to give a knife to Chuck in exchange for a brief meeting. The manager made copies of the letter and contacted Chuck's room. My dad, however, having previously worked in hotel business, knew how to identify the room number, so he slid the extra letter under Chuck's door instead of putting it on the windshield of his motorhome as the manager had instructed. It wasn't until the next day, just as we were ready to leave, that dad had a phone call in the room. Chuck talked to dad for about five minutes asking him all kinds of questions about where we were from and headed and such. He then agreed to meet us in the parking lot.

As I was two, at the time, I do not remember this meeting, but dad gave Chuck the knife (as seen in his hands in this photo). Chuck also agreed to allow photos to be taken and gave dad an autographed photo (which I will scan after he lends it to me) and permitted one of the photos to be sent to a knife magazine that dad was subscribed to.

At breakfast, that morning, Chuck happened to be at the restaurant, and when he saw dad, he called him to his table to get away from his kids for a while. lol He had a good discussion with dad about plans to move to Montrose and how the educational system was. Then he told dad that I had pretty hair. Heheheh, so all you trolls out there, saying I'm ugly (especially the YT troll who focused on my hair) just remember that a famous general pilot said my hair was pretty.
